Girls Incorporated of Metropolitan Dallas
Youth Leadership & Development

The Life Empowerment Action Plan (LEAP) is a mentoring and journaling program for girls ages 6-18 which uses the Girls Inc. Girls’ Bill of Rights as an organizing principle that provides the agency with ongoing evaluation, needs assessment, and parent involvement. Girls engage in developmentally appropriate personal assessment, health promotion, academic review, career and educational planning, and celebration of their successes.

Developed by Girls Inc. of Metropolitan Dallas, LEAP was adopted by our national affiliate in 1998. The Career Action Center (CAC) enables girls to pursue careers that will provide them with economic autonomy. Girls engage in career exploration exercises, job fairs, job shadowing, college field trips and hear career guest speakers. Girls are also matched with specialized mentors in their specific fields of interest. This has been proven to be highly effective in opening doors for educational opportunities both locally and nationally. Operation SMART (Science, Math and Relevant Technology) was piloted first by Girls Incorporated of Metropolitan Dallas for our national affiliate. Operation SMART provides opportunities for girls to explore careers in scientific fields while they practice and develop math and science skills. Corporate and community volunteers who mentor girls compliment the program by providing individualized support, guidance and role modeling.
