Leadership and Community Action

Empowered & Exemplary Programs

Mayor Leppert Backpack Donation

The Leandership and Community Action program enables girls to exercise personal and collective power and challenges them to contribute to positive change. Girls serve as teen volunteers, junior leaders, and conduct community service projects. Teens serve as staff interns and role models for younger girls and teach peer leadership education programs.

What Leaders Say About Girls Inc

"I appreciate the opportunity to express my support of Girls Inc. I am really impressed with this organization, and consider it to be a front-runner among girl groups. Girls Inc. is also special to me, and the city of Dallas , because it encourages youth to discover their potential. As a result, I truly believe many of today's youth will grow up to be tomorrow's leaders. Keep up the good work!"

Ron Kirk
Former Mayor of Dallas

"As a manager of both women and men, and the father of daughters as well as sons, I have seen first hand the astounding success of girls who are encouraged and empowered as they grow and mature. We must not settle for less."

Erle Nye
Chairman Emeritus of former TXU Corporation

"Young women often find themselves on a street to obscurity because of low expectations. It is education that serves as their compass from obscurity to achievement. The best investment anyone can make in young women is to ensure that they get a quality education that prepares them for a productive life. An author, Edward Everett, said: `An education is a better safeguard of liberty than a standing army.' Girls Inc. makes this investment in girls."

Dr. Mary Evan Sias
President Kentucky State University

"There has been a marked improvement with the girls attending Girls Inc. in Pleasant Grove. When girls are in programs that teach life skills, they take on ownership and respect for themselves. I am watching our students develop good habits and goals for life. Girls Inc. helps girls make and attain their goals. They show girls the importance of academics and staying in school to help them succeed in life."

Lucious Newhouse
Principal Adelle Turner (DISD)

"There is so much learning taking place at Girls Inc. I am particularly impressed with the peer mediation program that teaches young people mediation and conflict resolution skills to manage disputes among their peers."

Dr. Corina Gardea
Arizona Latino Policy Initiative - Phoenix College

"This is an extraordinary time of opportunity for women entering business. By education, team sports and competitions (e.g. debating), Girls Inc. prepares young women for a variety of fields."
