College Bound Teen Trip

This year's college destinations for the member of the Young Women's company were Grambling State University, University of Louisiana at Monroe, Jackson State University and Louisiana Tech University and University of Memphis.

Tour guides at each campus did an excellent job at engaging the 24 teens in school history, explaining the difference of attending an out-of-state school versus a Texas school and facilitating a mini-workshop on college requirements. The young women of Girls Inc. were informed on scholarship opportunities and learned the benefits of attending a historically black college as well as a diverse campus. The five day college bound teen trip in August also included fun activities at Laser Quest, meals at the Majestic Grille and barbecue at the well-known restaurant, The Commissary, near Memphis in the German Town neighborhood.

The annual college bound teen trip is financed with revenue generated by the members' of Young Women's Company, which was established by Girls Inc. members. The Young Women's Company is a campus-based business with daily operation of Teen Stores. Revenue from the store sales and a variety of fundraising efforts support the summer trip. We send a special thank you to Texas Woman's University for it's mentorship in the College Career Readiness program and for providing transportation for the college bound teen trip.
